The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute invites the public to a cultural walk and outdoor exhibition event dedicated to the Pervolia Lighthouse at Cape Kiti. 

The programme includes a cultural walk around the Pervolia Lighthouse and along its coastline, as well as a guided tour of the new temporary outdoor exhibition, “Light-house.”

The event offers visitors an opportunity to explore the environmental and cultural significance of Cape Kiti, trace the history of the Lighthouse, and learn more about its future transformation into an interpretation centre about the sea with a research, educational, and cultural focus.

The temporary outdoor exhibition “Light-house” explores the significance of Cape Kiti as a landmark of navigation, the history of the Lighthouse, and the human stories associated with it, as well as the site’s future transformation. In parallel, the cultural walk invites visitors to experience these narratives within the surrounding coastal landscape, reflect on the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage, and consider how development and climate changes continue to reshape the coastline.

Established in 1864, the Pervolia Lighthouse served as an important aid to navigation for over a century before being decommissioned in 1982. Today, the site is entering a new phase. Αn agreement between the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, in collaboration with the Dromolaxia-Meneou Municipality and the Larnaka Tourism Board, aims to transform the Lighthouse into an interpretation centre for ocean literacy. The Centre will host research and innovation activities, exhibitions, environmental and cultural educational programmes, as well as events that strengthen local identity and support sustainable development.

Through this initiative, the public is invited to rediscover the Pervolia Lighthouse at Cape Kiti, not only as a monument of the past, but also as a space that can make a meaningful contribution to research, education, culture and sustainable development.

The event is organised by the Cyprus Marine and the Maritime Institute and is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
